Academic Criteria (HIGHER than usual):
- Must have or expected First Class or equivalent in Undergraduate or Integrated Masters OR
- If you don’t have First Class undergrad, you MUST have or expect Distinction in standalone Masters degree
- Single undergraduate degree holders must have First Class
Other Criteria:
- Nationality: ALL nationalities eligible – UK and worldwide
- Study Mode: Full-time and Part-time both eligible
- New Applicants ONLY: Current Imperial PhD students NOT eligible
- Alternate Pathways: Imperial accepts non-traditional pathways with exceptional research potential and documented extenuating circumstances
- Supervisor: You MUST have contacted a supervisor who agreed to supervise you BEFORE applying

There is NO separate scholarship form. You apply for PhD admission and select President’s Scholarship option.
- Find Supervisor (Most Important – Start NOW): Browse Imperial doctoral courses: Find a Supervisor. Email 3-5 professors with your CV + brief research idea. Subject: “Prospective President’s PhD Scholar – [Your Topic]”. Check Unavailable Supervisors List – supervisors can only have ONE President’s scholar at a time.
- Secure Supervisor Agreement: Get email confirmation that they will supervise you if you get funding.
- Create Account on Imperial Admissions Portal: https://apply.imperial.ac.uk/
- Complete Online Application: Choose your PhD programme, start date between 1 Aug 2027 and 1 Nov 2027.
- In Funding Section: Tick “President’s PhD Scholarship” in Additional Questions tab.
