About the Frontend Developer Role
The Tonic Technologies is looking for a Frontend Developer who cares deeply about performance, reliability and the quality of the user experience.
In this role, you will build and maintain web applications used by more than 1.8 million users across Nigeria and Ghana, with products serving customers and businesses across multiple African markets.
You will transform Figma designs into clean, reusable React and TypeScript components while ensuring that applications remain fast and reliable even for users on mid-range Android devices, slow connections and limited resources.
Because many of the company’s products involve payments, wallet funding, withdrawals, KYC and financial amounts, attention to detail is critical. A frontend bug can directly affect a customer’s money and experience.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Build and maintain production web applications used by real customers.
- Convert Figma designs into clean, responsive and reusable frontend components.
- Develop interfaces using React, TypeScript, Next.js and Vite.
- Work with existing JavaScript code and progressively improve the codebase.
- Build customer-facing experiences for wallets, gift cards, virtual dollar cards, bills, gadgets and eSIM services.
- Contribute to partner and B2B dashboards used by merchants and developers.
- Develop and maintain internal administrative dashboards.
- Integrate frontend applications with REST APIs and backend services.
- Work with Redux Toolkit for client-side state management.
- Build reliable forms using react-hook-form and Yup.
- Improve page speed and frontend performance, particularly on lower-end mobile devices.
- Develop secure and reliable interfaces for payment, wallet funding, withdrawal and KYC workflows.
- Ensure financial values such as ā¦, $ and āµ are displayed accurately.
- Collaborate with backend engineers to improve API responses and frontend integration.
- Participate in GitHub pull requests and code reviews.
- Work with Docker-based applications and understand the deployment lifecycle.
- Support production releases through the team’s GitOps and Argo CD workflow.
- Identify bugs, performance bottlenecks and usability problems and help deliver practical fixes.
Technology Stack
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience shipping production React applications.
- Strong TypeScript skills.
- Production experience with Next.js or Vite.
- Knowledge of Redux, REST APIs, Git and code reviews.
- Strong understanding of frontend performance and responsive design.
- Ability to work with existing JavaScript codebases.
- Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly with non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail when working on financial and payment-related interfaces.
- Ability to use AI development tools responsibly while reviewing generated code.
- Strong awareness of customer privacy and security when using AI tools.
Bonus Skills
- FinTech or payments experience.
- Design system development.
- Understanding of XSS and CSRF.
- Internationalisation (i18n).
