UNICEF International Lead Consultant (Teacher Professional Learning) – Abuja

The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) is hiring an International Lead Consultant to support Nigeria’s education sector. This role focuses on refining and scaling a school-based teacher professional development (SBPD) system to empower educators and improve learning outcomes nationwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead high-level technical workshops with the Federal Ministry of Education (FME) to review and refine the SBPD model.
- Develop a comprehensive roadmap and form a technical working group for the refinement process.
- Create a detailed handbook and updated training materials for School Support Officers and headteachers.
- Design pedagogical modules on learner-centered teaching, activity-based learning, lesson planning, and data-driven instruction—eventually transitioning these to online formats.
- Produce tools such as self-assessment rubrics, observation templates, and learning walk guides for teacher development.
- Conduct two “train the trainer” sessions and provide continuous technical support to state education teams.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Education, International Development, Social Sciences, or related field.
- 10+ years of experience developing teacher professional learning materials.
- 5+ years in education sector analysis, planning, and management within low- or middle-income countries.
- Strong track record in training and coaching government officers on education reforms.
- Fluency in English with excellent writing and presentation skills.
- Experience with UNICEF, international donors, or development projects, preferably in Nigeria or sub-Saharan Africa.
