Who is this for?

Unlike partial £5k awards of previous years, the 2027 Africa Undergraduate value has more than doubled to £12k per year. For a 3-year degree, that is £36,000 off your international tuition. The award is granted as a tuition discount, no cash payment.
Eligible African Countries (Domicile-Based)
Eligibility is based on domicile, not nationality. You must have predominantly resided there during last 3 years. Applicants will only be considered if domiciled in:
- Botswana
- Egypt
- Ghana
- Kenya
- Mauritius (added for 2027)
- Nigeria
- South Africa
- Zimbabwe
Full Eligibility Criteria – 2027 Africa Undergraduate
- Domicile: Must be domiciled in listed 8 African countries (last 3 years)
- Offer: Must hold an offer for full-time, on-campus course at Manchester UK campus starting September 2027. Courses with integrated foundation year NOT eligible. Medicine, Dentistry, Architecture also excluded.
- Qualifications: Only open to direct Year 1 entry with: A Levels, IB Diploma, South African NSC/IEB, NCUK International Foundation Year (taken in Africa), Bridge House College Foundation Nigeria
- Minimum Grades: Must meet BOTH course offer AND these minima:
- A Level: AAA
- IB: 36 Points
- NCUK IFY: AAA
- Bridge House: AAA
- South African IEB/NSC: 77766
- Fee Status: Must be classified as ‘international’ for tuition fee purposes
- Self-Funded: Cannot be fully sponsored by government/commercial funder. Partial external scholarship allowed but award may be reduced.
- No Prior UK Study: Applicants who have previously studied in UK are not eligible
- Academic Merit: Selection based on academic merit + balance by gender, domicile and qualification type.
Value & Duration
Award Value: £12,000 per year for up to 3 years (subject to attainment of 60% average in each year) = £36,000 Total.
- Year in Industry: Award applied to Years One, Two and Four
- Renewal: Must achieve overall 60% each year
- Cannot be used with other University of Manchester awards
- Cannot be deferred
- Applies only to full-time courses at UK campus

STEP 1: Apply for Admission (Now – Jan 2027)
Apply via UCAS for your chosen undergraduate course at Manchester. You need an offer to be eligible for scholarship form. Choose course where Africans are underrepresented for higher chance.
Pro Tip for Nigerians: If you have WAEC/NECO, you need NCUK IFY taken in Africa or Bridge House College Foundation Nigeria to be eligible. Direct WAEC not listed.
STEP 2: Get Predicted Grades
You don’t need final results to apply for scholarship. Academic merit will be assessed on predicted grades from school and previous tests if results not yet available.
STEP 3: Receive Scholarship Application Link
A link to online form will be emailed to relevant offer holders. Check your Manchester applicant portal and email (including spam) from December 2026.

Master’s Option for Africans
If you already have a bachelor’s degree taken within Africa, you can apply for Master’s version. For 2026 awards Africa Master’s value was £18,000. Must have second-class upper minimum. Excludes MBA, MPhil, MArch, PGCE, Clinical Medicine/Dentistry and many MSc by Research. Deadline was 23 April 2026 for 2026 – expect similar for 2027.
Ambassador Duties (Mandatory if Selected)
Successful candidates are expected to support International Recruitment team as Global Futures Scholars: attending physical/virtual presentations, providing written/filmed testimonials, conversion call campaigns, acting as advocate. Time commitment max 8 hours per semester.
