The Certificate of Occupancy Officer will manage the entire lifecycle of C of O applications—from processing to verification and issuance—while ensuring compliance with government regulations and statutory requirements. This role is critical for maintaining accurate land records and supporting transparent land administration in Nigeria.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and review applications for Certificates of Occupancy.
- Verify land ownership, survey plans, and applicant documents in line with legal standards.
- Work with Survey, Town Planning, Legal, and Valuation teams for compliance checks.
- Coordinate land/property inspections for verification purposes.
- Prepare recommendations for approval and maintain accurate records of applications.
- Guide applicants on procedures, requirements, and timelines.
- Ensure statutory fees are assessed and collected before issuance.
- Support digitization of land records for improved transparency.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Estate Management, Urban Planning, Surveying, Law, or related field.
- 2–5 years of relevant experience in land administration or property documentation.
- Knowledge of the Land Use Act, land policies, and property law.
- Strong documentation, analytical, and record-keeping skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office; GIS knowledge is an advantage.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with high integrity.
